چکیده

Case-based reasoning (CBR) systems often refer to diverse data mining functionalities and algorithms. This article locates examples, many from health sciences domains, mapping data mining functionalities to CBR tasks and steps, such as case mining, memory organization, case base reduction, generalized case mining, indexing, and weight mining. Data mining in CBR focuses greatly on incremental mining for memory structures and organization with the goal of improving performance of retrieval, reuse, revise, and retain steps. Researchers are aiming at the ideal memory as described in the theory of the dynamic memory, which follows a cognitive model, while also improving performance and accuracy in retrieve, reuse, revise, and retain steps. Several areas of potential crossfertilization between CBR and data mining are also proposed.

Role and Significance of Case-based Reasoning in the Health Sciences

Computational intelligence researchers have often applied their systems and methods to health sciences domains. Some of the most famous expert systems were developed in these domains. This particular interest also holds for casebased reasoning (CBR). This article first discusses the motivations for applying CBR to health sciences domains and the characteristics of these domains. It then provide...

A case study for application of fuzzy inference and data mining in structural health monitoring

In this study, a system for monitoring the structural health of bridge deck and predicting various possible damages to this section was designed based on measuring the temperature and humidity with the use of wireless sensor networks, and then it was implemented and investigated. A scaled model of a conventional medium sized bridge (length of 50 meters, height of 10 meters, and with 2 piers) wa...

Integrating data mining with case-based reasoning for chronic diseases prognosis and diagnosis

The threats to people’s health from chronic diseases are always exist and increasing gradually. How to decrease these threats is an important issue in medical treatment. Thus, this paper suggests a model of a chronic diseases prognosis and diagnosis system integrating data mining (DM) and case-based reasoning (CBR). The main processes of the system include: (1) adopting data mining techniques t...
